Time to clean house

To the Editor:

Missouri has succeeded in making national news for the second time this past month. First, it was the shambolic attempt by Denny Hoskins’, Missouri’s Secretary of State who really needs someone to help him with his wardrobe (red really is not his color), and Governor Kehoe’s attempt to kowtow to Donald Trump by redrawing the state’s congressional map outside of the standard census period. Why? Because Trump is afraid that, with the midterm elections coming while is popularity is waning, he will lose the majority in the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate. Even after being chastised by the State Supreme Court for trying to ignore a petition requesting that such a plan to redistrict the state be brought to a vote by the citizens of the state for a vote, Hoskins still tried to push through his subversion. A charge of contempt by the State Supreme Court and three failed attempts to appeal that decision that the Secretary of State and his cronies sent to the U.S. Supreme Court later, the State Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the right of the petition and require that the original 2022 state congressional districting plan be upheld. Expressing his disgust over the ruling,

Missouri House Representative Bob Onder stated that state legislation should not be dictated by “mob rule”. Imagine that, allowing the citizens vote on such an important matter rather than the legislators unilaterally make a decision without constituent input amounts to mob rule.

The Show Me State showed the rest of the country, and dare I say the world, how corrupt its governance is as all of this was documented on national news.

Now, as the television cameras were rolling, Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt took center stage in his cross examination of retired special counsel Jack Smith to show how truly incompetent Missouri’s elected officials truly are. In his ingenious “gotcha’” conspiratorial monologue, he linked Mr. Smith to a covert meeting with the Georgia Attorney General to conspire against Donald Trump. His evidence was a text file that he obtained purported that Smith was at an Atlanta Hawks game on February 3rd, a day after the Georgia Attorney’s relationship with her prosecutor became public. Cameras zoomed in on Senator Schmitt as he smirked when Smith stated that he had no recollection of being in Atlanta nor at that game. GOTCHA! PERJURY! You are a SCUMBAG!

Unfortunately, for Eric Schmitt, he got his facts wrong and was called out in real time… with cameras rolling… on national news. Jack Smith did not go to a Hawks game. He was not in Atlanta on February 3rd. Instead, he was in Maryland at a woman’s basketball game between the Maryland Terps and Iowa HAWKEYES. Egg on the face. He just surpassed Tommy Tuppervile, who claimed that some pilots of commercial airlines were furries, in competition for the dumbest performance by an elected official.

The way things are going, Missouri’s new motto should be the “Show Me how low you can go State.

Maybe it is time to clean house. And, that would include not just at the federal level but those in state government who voted for the redistricting without voter consent.
