UD Halloween contest winner claims honors

LINN — Three years ago, when Quinn Miller, 6, of Bonnots Mill, was 4, she won the UD’s annual Halloween coloring contest. This year, she was one of 10 among 169 entries to earn prizes in the Missouri Association of Electric Cooperatives coloring contest.

She colored Larry the Lineman and cut it out from the local Three Rivers Co-op newsletter. “She took him on some adventures, including the corn wagon and to see the Big Boy train at Chamois,” said her grandmother, Elaine Hunt.

At the Three Rivers annual meeting in August, Quinn was photographed with Larry the Lineman and featured in the co-op’s magazine.

Her grandparents, Larry and Elaine, said she responded to a contest notice in the Missouri Association of Electric Cooperatives’ magazine. “She’s always enjoyed coloring and drawing,” Elaine said one afternoon after Quinn reached their house following school.

Quinn, the daughter of Kory and Meredith Miller, was thrilled to learn she’d won prizes, including Buddy Bear, a plushie, books, stickers, markers, and a new coloring book.

Animals are her favorite thing to draw and she favors gold, pink, and teal with sparkles as her primary colors.

Drawing is an especially fun part of Mrs. Lamb’s class at Linn Elementary, where she is in first grade.

“I’ve always liked it,” she said. “I think I’m better than before.”

Winning the UD’s contest provided confidence to enter the association’s contest, and Quinn intends to continue honing her skills.

She also loves hearts, rainbows, and remote-control cars, with room to explore at her grandparents’ house after school.

Though she acknowledged that a lot can happen between now and when she reaches adulthood, but when asked the question about what she wants to be when she grows up, Quinn said, “I want to be a leprechaun catcher, unicorn catcher, strawberry farmer, or a geologist.”

For now, she’s happy to draw what comes to mind, and enter coloring contests to show off what she’s learned. And she’s hard at work finishing this year’s UD coloring page with an eye on another win.
