Velma Ruth Hayes, 87, Vienna, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023, at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia.
She was born June 27, 1935, to the late Chester Norman “Ted” and Ruby Ruth (Copeland) Snodgrass in Maries County.
She was united in marriage to Wesley Eugene Hayes Oct. 11, 1952, in Dixon.
In addition to being a devoted housewife and homemaker during her working life, Velma had also been employed at the Langenberg Hat Company, the MFA Grocery Store and the South Central Regional Stockyards, all in Vienna, prior to her retirement.
She was preceded in death by husband, Wes; parents, Ted and Ruby; son, Darrell Eugene Hayes; infant daughter, Cathy Hayes; and brother, Delmar Norman Snodgrass.
Velma is survived by children, Becky James and husband Brian of Vienna, Rocky Hayes and wife Ann of Cape Girardeau, Michael Hayes and wife Donna of Dixon, Susan Brunnert and husband Mark of Vienna, Robin Kleffner and husband Michael of Brinktown and Ryan Hayes and wife Lori of Vienna; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Donald Snodgrass of Vienna, Vivian Sandbothe of Taos, Bill Snodgrass and wife Melvina of Meta, Dallas Snodgrass and wife Terry of Vienna, and Dennis Snodgrass of Vichy.
Funeral service was held March 11 in the Kenner Church of God in Dixon with Rev. Karen Alden of Woodlandville United Methodist Church in Rocheport officiating. Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery. Memorial contributions suggested to the Kenner or Felkerson Cemetery perpetual care fund.
