Linn’s middle school track and field team turned in a strong performance at its home invitational last Monday, with several top medalists, led by Trenton Vogler, who won the 800 in 2:24.38.
Coach Robyn Baker said the 12-team home invitational went very well because of parental support. “Linn Athletics is blessed to have such support from throughout our community,” she added. “Our middle school team is working hard, and in this meet, they showed great improvement, with several personal records and some hardware in a competitive meet.”
Ben Swann earned second in the triple jump (9.98m) and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.59), as Brandon Youtzy placed fourth in the discus (25.69m) and fifth in the shot put (9.61m).
The 4x100 relay team of Luke Scheulen, Bryson Haslag, Landon Engelhardt, and Youtzy placed fourth (59.06), while the 4x400 squad of Swann, MJ Ramey-Pennington, Vogler, and Ethan Grafe finished fourth (4:26.79).
On the girls’ side, Ava Winkelman won the triple jump (9.38m) and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (30.03).
Kensington Kramer placed second in the 1600m (6:30.93), while Amelia Brandt was third (6:36.09).
“It was great to see Kenni and Amelia push each other in this race for a medal,” said Baker.
The 4x800 relay team of Allyson Entz, Brandt, Kramer, and Lily Baker won in 11:35.61, while the 4x100 relay team of Norah Caldwell, Winkelman, Morgan Sutton, and Kendall Niederhelm placed second (57.92).
“Our relay teams are starting to find their stride as groups, and the 4x800 team bettered its time considerably,” said Baker.
The 4x400 relay team of Willow Reimund, Sydney Bowne, Sophia Monroe, and Kramer placed third (5:06.09).
Baker placed fourth in the 800 (2:55.91) and fourth in the high jump (1.20m), while Niederhelm placed fourth in the long jump (4.08m) and Caldwell added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (8.35m).
Coach feedback highlighted continued growth, including A. Entz breaking the three-minute mark in the 800 and strong progression from multiple athletes across events.
