Unnecessary, needless and avoidable are three words that describe the death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last Wednesday.
Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent after allegedly driving her Honda Pilot at the agent. Videos online show Good, in her SUV, blocking traffic. As an officer approaches her vehicle and asks her to exit the car, a voice can be heard yelling, “No.”
Seconds later, she steps on the gas with her Honda, apparently headed directly towards the officer in question, leading to what DHS describes as a shooting in “self-defense.”
Her death was a tragedy. It was a needless death. But who is to blame?
The ultimate blame is on Good. She was the driver, apparently using her vehicle as a weapon. All she had to do was step out of the SUV, and she would be alive today. But many other culprits share responsibility.
First to blame is the person who can be heard yelling “no” when Good was ordered by a federal agent to exit her car. That encouragement may have been what made her decide to ignore the officer.
Next is Good’s wife, Rebecca Brown Good. In a video, taken immediately after the shooting by BIGSLEEZ YUP, she can be heard saying, “I made her come down here. It’s my fault.”
The New York Post reported last week that Renee Good was involved with “ICE Watch,” a loose coalition of people who document and sometimes disrupt ICE activity, including using their cars. Over the last year, ICE officers have experienced 66 car attacks, compared with just two the previous year. Everyone in her “ICE Watch” group shares some responsibility.
The Post reported that Good’s son attended Southside Family Charter School, which publicly promotes a “social justice” curriculum and involvement in political activism. Apparently, she became connected to the group through the school. Multiple sources confirmed that Good received training on engaging with ICE officers. If this is true, the school is also to blame.
The blame does not stop there. Top Democrat politicians have used rhetoric to demonize ICE. At a University of Minnesota law school commencement address, Gov. Tim Walz compared ICE agents to “Trump’s modern-day Gestapo…scooping folks up off the streets.”
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has compared ICE agents to the neo-Nazi group NSC-131.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson accused “secret police” of “terrorizing our communities.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders asked people to “figure out a way to stop ICE from what they are doing as soon as possible.”
All of these lies encourage disobedience to law enforcement and support actions similar to Good’s. They share blame for her death.
On Saturday, Border Czar Tom Homan posted on X, “ICE conducts targeted operations to enforce federal immigration laws that have existed for decades, and they do it with the utmost professionalism. They don’t choose who gets deported; the law and federal judges do. They didn’t pass the laws, nor can they change them. If you don’t like the laws, take it up with Congress.”
Last fall, the New York Post reported that there are currently “1.5 million individuals who haven’t left the country months after receiving a final order of deportation (meaning they’ve exhausted all appeals) as well as the roughly 700,000 illegal migrants who’ve committed or at least been charged with a felony in this country or (in many cases) back home.”
Also on Saturday, ICE officials released a list of the “worst of the worst” criminal illegal immigrants arrested recently in Minnesota. They include child rapists and almost a dozen killers.
Those are the illegals that ICE is arresting. Those are the illegals that Democrat politicians call their “neighbors” as they interfere with ICE.
ICE Director Todd M. Lyons wrote, “Some of these criminal aliens have had final orders of removal for 30 years, but they’ve been free to terrorize Minnesotans.” ICE is enforcing our laws.
For this, the mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey tells ICE to “get the f--- out of Minneapolis.” Good’s death should also be on his conscience.
Renee Good’s mother described her as compassionate and non-confrontational. All of the groups and individuals mentioned can share responsibility in changing her, resulting in her tragic death.
