LINN — Linn honored its seniors Friday during the Wildcats’ final regular-season football game, but visiting South Callaway claimed a 45-16 victory despite two second-half Linn touchdowns.

The Wildcats (0-9) finished with 162 rushing yards and 27 passing yards, scoring both touchdowns on the ground. Freshman quarterback Ben Swann accounted both scores, and Linn converted a two-point PAT on the second drive.

Linn coach Sonny Sonnemaker praised the community’s continued support, noting the atmosphere surrounding the Senior Night festivities, which included a tailgate and a field painted red in recognition of the seniors.

“The community is super supportive,” Sonnemaker said.

Among the seniors, Sonnemaker singled out brothers Connor and Xavier Knoll for their contributions to the program, particularly the energy and positive influence they bring to the locker room. Also recognized were Paul Lopez, Preston Keilholz, Hunter Bish, Aaden Nelson, Owen Reichart, and Dillon Strope.

During halftime, the school also recognized cross-country seniors Kylie Messenger and Elyse Brandt; band member Lane McKim; and cheerleaders Hayley Backues, Kaitlyn Shippman, and April Everett. The marching band also performed.

Sonnemaker pointed to the development of his younger players, including Swann, as an encouraging sign for the program. Several freshmen have earned increased playing time, taken on leadership responsibilities, and shown progress in implementing the coaching staff’s approach.

“It’s really neat to see,” Sonnemaker said of the younger players stepping up and earning opportunities.

Although the Wildcats finished their regular-season schedule without a victory, Sonnemaker expressed encouragement about the contributions of the younger players as the program looks toward the future.

South Callaway (5-4) rushed for 285 yards and added 23 through the air, scoring five rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns. Ethan Munford led the Bulldogs with 126 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
