Albert W. Haslag, 98, Loose Creek, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at his residence.

He was born July 11, 1925, to the late Conrad and Gertrude (Orscheln) Haslag, Sr. in Loose Creek.

He attended grade school and high school in Loose Creek and graduated in 1943.

Albert was united in marriage to Genrose Rachel Oidtman Aug. 13, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek.

He was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving with the Naval Amphibian Assault/Special Ops. Forces in the Pacific theatre. Albert drove an LCM (Landing Craft Mechanized) during WWII, hauling troops—primarily Marines and Army Infantry—and equipment to the beaches. He took part in seven different island invasions in the South Pacific and the Philippines as part of General MacArthur’s island-hopping campaign.

Albert was a broiler, turkey and hog farmer until he retired. He also worked for MFA Poultry Division as a turkey procurement agent and served on the National Broiler Advisory Committee during the Kennedy Administration, representing the State of Missouri.

Albert was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Loose Creek, serving as President of the Parish Council and was instrumental in helping build the original Loose Creek Community ball field. He was also active in VFW Post 4756 of Linn, where he served two terms as Post Commander. Albert belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aire #2693 in Jefferson City, in addition to being an active member of the Bonnots Mill Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by wife of 50 years, Genrose; parents, Conrad and Gertrude; a son; daughter, Eileen Rose; brothers, Jerome and Hugo Haslag; sisters-in-laws, Janet and Theresa Haslag; sons-in-law, Nicholas J. Muenks, John P. Backes and Rick Crowe; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Haslag; and step-grandson, Scott Bax.

Albert is survived by children, Janice Muenks Backes and friend James Asche, Nina Crowe, Ellen Kliethermes and husband James,  Wendell Haslag and wife Gail and Wesley Haslag and friend Alicia Holland, all of Loose Creek, Warren Haslag and wife Helen of Linn, Elaine Bescheinen and husband Marvin of Versailles and Mary Nell Turner and husband Butch of Tebbetts; grandchildren, Heather Eisterhold and  husband Bert, Lanelle  Hoecker and husband Shane, Nicholas Wade Muenks and wife Carrie and Nathan Muenks and wife Jesse, Mandy Branson, Clayton Haslag and wife Tasha and Lyle Haslag, Jennifer Lujin and husband Terrence, Aaron Bescheinen and wife Deborah, Bethany Neuner and husband Jake and Ryan Crowe and wife Rachel, Dustin Frey and wife Christy, Corey Mack and husband Jonathan, Beau Turner, Claire Turner, Sarah Rose Smyth and husband Tom and Hannah Bisoglio and husband Derek, Waylon Haslag and wife Alex, Ethan Haslag and wife Ashley and Amber Haslag, Whitney Williams and husband Ryan and Kayla Ritter and husband Zach; step-grandchildren, Brian Stegeman, Mike Backes and wife Kim, Marc Backes, and Jena Dudenhoeffer and husband Brett, Nick Wildhaber and wife Chikka and Jacob Wildhaber and wife Jeri, Tracy Bax and wife Stacy, Ryan Bax and Nichole Bax, Shaun Haslag and wife Megan, Skylor Haslag and wife Kayla; honorary grandchild, Mason Siebert; 34 great-grandchildren, 24 step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard Haslag, Sr. and wife Connie and Conrad Haslag, Jr. and wife Margie; sisters-in-law, Martha Mitchell and Jeanne Marie Porting; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Oct. 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek.

Interment with full military honors was in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Immaculate Conception School Foundation or St Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
