Barbara Joan Schwartz, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born April 10, 1941, to the late Armine F. and Josephine L. (Walker) Schieder in Jefferson City.
She was united in marriage to Gerald J. “Pete” Schwartz April 29, 1961, in Chamois.
Barbara attended Chamois High School and worked as a secretary for the Missouri National Guard Adjutant General’s Office for 27 years, retiring in 2000.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, embroidering, crocheting, shopping and playing her favorite game, BINGO. Most of all Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and her fur baby Lizzie.
She was preceded in death by husband, Gerald; parents, Armine and Josephine; in-laws; and son-in-law, Roy Prenger.
Barbara is survived by daughters, Denise Massman and husband Rob, Diane Prenger, Kelly Schwartz, Shelly Schwartz and Holly Rackers and husband Curt; brother, Jerome Schieder and wife Marilyn; sisters, Nancy Garrison and Angie Williams; grandchildren, Andrea Dennis and husband Scott, Shelby Gill and husband Jon, Cameron Massman and wife Abby, Erin Duren and husband Jeremy, Emily Lambert and husband Eric, Tyler Holtmeyer and wife Megan, Derek Holtmeyer and wife Kaitlyn,Piper Vertiz and husband Pablo and Pierce Rackers; 18 great-grandchildren, with one more expected in the spring; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., (today) Wednesday, Nov. 26, followed by a prayer service at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in Jefferson City, with Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki, VG officiating. Interment was at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
