LINN — Richard M. Schuler, 52, of Belle, was charged on Tuesday, July 11, with possession of a controlled substance following his arrest the previous day.
According to a release by Sheriff Mike Bonham, deputies conducted a traffic stop at 501 E Main Street (Casey’s General Store) in Linn on Monday, July 10, at approximately 8 p.m. The vehicle was stopped for obstructed registration and failure to signal.
As the vehicle pulled over, Bonham said the deputy noticed the passenger, Schuler, was making furtive movements around his waist as if attempting to conceal something.
During the enforcement contact with the driver, deputies obtained consent from Schuler to search his person and personal property within the vehicle.
Deputies noticed a foreign object in Schuler’s groin area, and he eventually agreed to remove the item and hand it to the deputy. Schuler produced a black case, which appeared to be a knife sheath, containing a glass smoking device with white remnants throughout the pipe’s stem. Also in the sheath was a baggy with approximately 1.2 grams of a white crystal substance.
Deputies arrested Schuler and transported him to the Osage County Detention Center, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending consideration of formal charges.
