Fatima sophomore Ty Brandt is returning to the state golf tournament after last week’s Class 2, District 2 tournament at Norwoods Golf Club in Palmyra. Brandt turned in a 4-over-par 76 to earn fifth, and began state competition on Monday at Bogey Creek Golf Center in Farmington. Full results will be presented next week.

“As Ty returns to the state tournament as a defending state champion, we are expecting another great performance out of him this spring,” said Coach Scott Kilgore. “We are super excited for him.”

Another strong finish at the district tournament came from Evan Otto, who missed the cut by one stroke, finishing with an 83 for 17th place. “He had an exceptional round,” said Kilgore. “Our goal was to get multiple golfers through to the state tournament. However, we came up just a bit short.”

As a team, the Comets scored 339 to earn fourth place, finishing behind Duchesne (335), Monroe City (333), and Palmyra (329).

Next for Fatima were Nick Howe and Trevor Crowe, each with a 90, and Xavier “Chet” Stuecken rounded out the team with a 97.

“This ending was super frustrating for us, although taking fourth-place overall was a strong finish for our team,” said Kilgore. “This ended up being a great spring for our varsity and JV golf teams. We saw a lot of improvement on the course throughout our golfers. With that improvement, we saw a lot of success for those guys as well. The future of Fatima golf looks promising.”
