Chamois pair charged with drug trafficking

Terry A. Jackson, 28, and Megan C. Wood, 34, both of Chamois, were charged last week with first-degree drug trafficking stemming from a traffic stop on Monday, Sept. 11, on CR 212.

In his probable cause statement, Sgt. Richard Jarvis noted that he saw a blue 2006 Pontiac G6 bearing Missouri plates that he knew belonged to Wood and Jackson.

However, he knew the license plates did not belong to the vehicle. The expiration tabs on the car had been altered to show 2024 tabs from the original 2023 sticker. The license plates also returned to a 2003 Honda passenger vehicle while displayed on a 2006 Pontiac G6.

During the traffic stop, Jarvis noted that Wood said they were driving back from Union, where they had picked up Jackson. Two passengers were in the backseat were later released without charges.

While speaking with Wood, Jarvis observed her to be acting nervously, speaking quietly with occasional trembling, and her hands were shaking.

Jarvis moved the interview to the front of his patrol vehicle as Maries County K9 Deputy Tiffaney Johnson arrived to assist.

Wood claimed no illegal materials were in the car and denied consent to search.

The K9 indicated an alert during a free-air search of the vehicle’s exterior. Capt. Travis Shaffer and Deputy Jeremy Carrigan arrived to assist with the investigation.

While going through the vehicle, Shaffer located a black cloth bag inside the fuse box under the hood in the engine bay containing four clear plastic baggies. Each weighed about 29 grams for a total weight of approximately 117 grams of a white crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Shaffer advised Wood of her Miranda Rights. Wood stated she understood and still wanted to speak with deputies about the incident.

According to the PC statement, Wood and the two subjects in the backseat traveled to Union to pick up Jackson. Wood added they pulled up to a house, Jackson got into the vehicle, and they drove away. She noted the only place they stopped on the return home was at a gas station for fuel.

Wood told Shaffer she didn’t know the suspected methamphetamine was in the vehicle; however, she knew Jackson had gone to Union to pick up narcotics.

Jackson told deputies he was the only person in the vehicle that knew about the meth. Jarvis wrote, however, that Wood knew why Jackson had gone to Union, and as a result, both were taken into custody and transported to the Osage County Detention Center without incident.

Wood and Jackson are being held without bond, which the court did not modify during their initial appearance.

A bond hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 26 before Judge Sonya Brandt.
