Chamois R-1 approves clean FY23 audit

CHAMOIS — Chamois R-1 school board members approved the most recent audit prepared by Gerding, Korte & Chitwood CPA of Boonville last Wednesday, Dec. 13.

“It was the first year working with the new firm, and everything went well,” Superintendent Lyle Best said.

The report shows the school district had assets totaling $2,279,245 as of June 30, 2023. The report also shows the school district’s fund balances as follows: general ($1,692,949), special ($1,114), and capital projects ($585,182).

Auditors showed the totals of the revenue collected by the school district: local ($1,252,368), county ($96,776), state ($1,318,339), and federal ($471,384). Chamois R-1 had $2,721,028 in expenses and a surplus of $416,839.

In other business, school board members approved the extra duty schedule for the 2023-24 school year. The district will pay the following percentages on a base pay of $31,000 for extra duty positions: athletic director (12.5%), high school boys’ and girls’ head basketball coach (10%), high school boys’ and girls’ assistant basketball coach (4.5%), JH boys’ and girls’ basketball coach (5%), volleyball head coach (6%), high school volleyball assistant coach (4.5%), JH volleyball head coach (2%), JH volleyball assistant coach (1%), cross country coach (8%), boys’ and girls’ track and field head coach (7%), boys’ and girls’ assistant track and field coach (4%), high school academic team (2.5%), JH academic team (2%), elementary quiz bowl (2%), senior class sponsor (5%), junior class sponsor (5%) FBLA sponsor (4.5%), FFA sponsor (5%), band sponsor (9.5%), and yearbook sponsor (2%).

• Board members also approved an additional extra duty pay schedule that pays the following amounts: test coordinator ($1,500), title program coordinator ($1,000), teacher mentor ($300), teacher buddy ($150), summer school teacher ($146 per day), summer school administrator ($188 per day), approved after-school tutoring ($20 per hour), supervising during plan period ($15 per hour), Education Rising sponsor ($1,150), gatekeeper ($10 per game), clock-keeper ($10 per game), scorekeeper ($15 per game), Parents as Teachers (PAT) visit and planning ($20 per hour), PAT group screening ($16 per hour), PAT meeting ($16 per hour), PAT professional development and planning ($13 per hour), chairperson and secretary for the professional development committee ($300), professional development committee members ($200), and district leadership committee members ($300).

• At the November meeting, board members authorized Best to look for a company to provide the school district with construction services. Only one company, Facility Solutions Group (FSC), submitted a proposal.

School board members requested that FSC present their proposal in person at an upcoming meeting.

Best will consult with the company and set up something that works for everyone.

• Best reported that only one person has filed to run in the April election for seats held by Kris Wuelling and Nick Schollmeyer.

• School board members approved outstanding bills totaling $122,884.58.

• Chamois R-1 had the following ending account balances: general ($1,601,569), special ($209,420), and capital ($539,132).

• The school district has three certificates of deposit (CD) totaling $756,964, earning interest ranging from .6% to 5.4%.

• The school district also has $724,689 in an account with Missouri Capital Asset Advantage Treasury (MOCAAT), earning 5.4% interest. The district has $216,255 in the money market account at Heritage Bank, earning 3.2% interest.
