Chamois continued its early-season progress Saturday at the Linn Invitational, with all three Pirate runners improving on their performances on the course from a year ago.
“The three cross country runners ran a good race this early in the season,” Coach John Leach said. “It is the third one for the year, and they are starting to understand how to run the race.”
Grayson Gerloff led the trio with a time of 21:19.64, placing 46th. Carly Schollmeyer finished 31st in 26:30.43, while Emma Mehmert placed 43rd in 27:37.65.
Schollmeyer came within approximately 16 seconds of earning a medal. Leach noted the Linn course was different this year, adding another variable to the year-to-year comparison.
Gerloff was about a minute faster than he was at Linn last season, Mehmert improved by more than a minute, and Schollmeyer cut approximately 3½ minutes from her previous time on the course.
“All three runners ran faster than last year, so I am proud of them,” Leach said.
