Osage County Treasurer Tim Neuner passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, Oct. 1, apparently felled by a massive heart attack.
Osage County Sheriff’s deputies were on the scene shortly after emergency medical personnel arrived.
Sheriff Mike Bonham said they saw prompt, vigorous attempts to revive Neuner, but to no avail. “We’re all just blown away by this,” he said.
Neuner was near the end of his fourth term of service. First elected in 2006, he chose not to seek reelection this year. He had announced his attention to retire at the end of 2022.
Long-serving Osage County Recorder Cindy Hoffman, like most other county officials, has never worked with another treasurer. She was first elected in 2008 and remembers him as being extremely cordial to everyone, those he worked with, and visitors to the Osage County Administration Building. Hoffman noted that Neuner was more than conscientious in his service to the county.
She pointed out, though, that despite his dedication to duty, “His whole world was his grandkids.”
Anyone who visited Neuner’s office saw the pictures on walls, doors, and desks. They can attest to the truth of her statement.
All other county officials on duty Monday, Oct. 3, reflected the same stunned grief.
Osage County Presiding Commissioner Darryl Griffin called for a moment of silence at the Commission meeting Tuesday, Oct. 4, adding, “Remember Tim and his family in your prayers.”
