Fatima had a solid outing at Thursday’s California tri, defeating the host Pintos, MMA, and St. James.

“The boys secured all three wins in dominant fashion,” said Coach Kurt Strope. “The boys wrestled really well in all three duals, mostly winning by pin or tech.”

Against California, Fatima won 46-15.

In contested matches, Harlan Deardeuff won by decision (7-3) at 190 over Logan Silkwood, Caden Rosentreter (106) defeated Nicholas Grube (TF, 22-6, 5:53), Nolan Laux (144) defeated Jackson Barnard (Dec 3-2), Zachary Kloeppel (150) beat Ivan Pena (TF, 15-0, 6:00), Logan Laux (157) knocked off Dylan Simpson (fall 0:55), and Jesse Schroeder (175) bested Sawyer McGill (fall 3:59).

Tucker Tune (120) had a tough match against the top-ranked kid from California, Conner Farmer.

“He ultimately ended up losing by points, but I think we learned a few things from the match that will help at state in a couple of weeks,” said Strope.

Fatima defeated MMA 48-30.

J. Schroeder (fall, 1:47), Rosentreter (TF, 15-0. 2:00), William Berhorst (113, fall 1:00), Thomas Kremer (132, fall, 1:17), Tucker Schroeder (138, MD, 11-3), N. Laux (fall, 2:29), Kloeppel (Dec, 10-9), and L. Laux (fall, 1:55) won their matches.

In the third matchup, Fatima defeated St. James 54-24, with wins by J. Schroeder (fall, 4:37), Berhorst (fall, 1:24), Kremer (fall, 2:37), L. Laux (fall, 0:36), Kloeppel (fall, 0:46), and L. Laux (fall, 3:33).

The Lady Comets went 2-0 on the night and dominated both teams they faced.

Heidi Struemph (135) won by fall (0:19), and Emillie Bonnot (190, fall, 1:09) won the only contested matches against the Lady Pintos in a 30-24 team win.

In the lone head-to-head contest against St. James, Draven Cole (135) won by fall (1:52).

Fatima’s girls’ team also wrestled at a huge tournament at Seckman, which featured 42 teams.

“I was proud of how we competed on Saturday,” said Coach Strope. “Draven broke out last weekend, picking up her first-ever win on Thursday and then earning first place at the tournament. Draven was the standout wrestler this week. She has figured some things out and is beating some people.”

At 135C, Cole opened with a win over Kenna South (St. Charles, Dec, 10-9) and Chelsey Nations (Dexter, fall, 4:00), then lost to Avery Wunderlich of Kirkwood (fall, 1:19). After a bye, Cole returned to face Wunderlich, and won the first-place match by fall (4:30).

Heidi Struemph (130A) earned second place on the day. She opened with a win over Samantha Compton of North Point (fall, 2:40), and then had a bye. Struemph returned to beat Melanie Guerrero (Warrenton, Dec, 8-3) and lost to Kaitlyn Sparkman (Francis Howell Central, Dec, 6-0). In the final match, Struemph emerged victorious after Bella Antal of Ft. Zumwalt West forfeited (medical) to finish second.

Ivy Ruecker (170B) also finished second, falling in the first-place match by fall (0:41) to Terryanne Garey (McCluer). She lost in the third round to Blair Woods of Seckman (fall, 5:35).

Journey Markway (115C) went 3-2, Elizabeth Meyer (125C), Renee Wilbers (120B), and Emillie Bonnot each finished 1-3, Bailey Buschjost went 1-4, and Aubrey Wieberg finished 0-4.
