Fatima wrestlers won two duals at home in Saturday’s inaugural New Year’s Dual Tournament against tough competitors from six other schools to finish fifth.

“The tournament ran very smoothly, and all the teams came and got in six duals against some teams they usually don’t see during the season,” said Coach Kurt Strope. “As we are centrally located, we drew a few teams from different directions around the state. As a whole, the team wrestled very well on Saturday, only picking up a total of six individual losses.”

Fatima filled seven of the 14 weight classes, making it hard to win duals, but the boys put in a great effort. “We are in another dual tournament at Cap City this weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing how we compete against some tougher teams, and how we handle ourselves during and after these matches. It should be a good test for us.”

Tucker Schroeder (138), Nolan Laux (144), Logan Laux (150), Jesse Schroeder (175), Harlan Deardeuff (190), and Will Berhorst (113) won their matches in the contested matchups to defeat Adriana 39-24.

The Comets also beat Steelville, 42-12, with Caden Rosentreter (106), Berhorst, L. Laux, and J. Schroeder winning their matches.

In a very close contest, Fatima lost to Versailles, 39-34.

Deardeuff defeated Tommy Garcia by fall (5:58), and Rosentreter won by MD (15-2) over Clayton Zimmerman in the Comets’ two wins. J. Schroeder lost (SV-1, 10-7) in his contest against Ethan Garber.

Fatima lost to St. Pius X (Festus) 48-35.

N. Laux pinned Joey Sebastian (2:57), T. Schroeder won by fall (3:59) over Reid Menke, L. Laux pinned Madden McNutt (fall, 0:41), J. Schroeder beat Matthew King (fall, 1:09), and Rosentreter beat Noah Statzel (TR, 19-4, 2:14) in contested matches. Deardeuff lost to Cody Shaver (fall, 0:41).

Against Valle Catholic, Rosentreter won by fall (0:20) over Cammden Zipprich, and Berhorst beat Clayton Stewart (fall, 3:01). Deardeuff, N. Laux, and T. Schroeder lost their matches.

Fatima’s final opponent was Macon, with the Comets falling 54-26.

T. Schroeder defeated Gideon Kauffman (MD, 13-3), N. Laux beat Benjamin Seiler by fall (2:43), J. Schroeder beat Blake Kitchen by fall (3:57), and Deardeuff won (MD, 9-0) against Seth Mathis. L. Laux and Berhorst lost their contests.
