Fatima golfers hosted a meet at Oak Hills Golf Center on Thursday, scoring 171 to tie for second with Centralia, as Blair Oaks won with a team score of 150.

“This was a positive performance for us,” said Coach Scott Kilgore. “Centralia has one of the better golf teams in the area. Our boys stayed focused as best they could during stormy weather. We still have a lot of work to do to be where we want to be by the end of the season. If these boys continue to stay focused, we will be just fine come district time.”

Ty Brandt shot a 39 to finish sixth as Evan Otto earned 10th with a 41, followed by Nick Howe (11, 42), and Xavier “Chet” Stuecken and Trevor Crow, each of whom shot 49 for 25th place.

In non-scoring finishes, Toren Orscheln finished 16th (44) and Nate Jaegers was 18th (45), followed by Noah Wilbers and Hank Stuckenschneider (20, 48), Dylan Crowe (25, 49), Joe Carwile (33, 54), Ben Reinsch (34, 55), Ryan Jansen (36, 56), and Eli Massman (39, 58).

On Wednesday of last week, the Comets earned fourth at the Russellville Invitational as Brandt won the match with a career-best 3-under-par 69.

“This was an interesting day of golf for all involved,” said Kilgore as the team finished fourth (323) behind Centralia (309), Tipton (309), and California (307). “Weather delays always interrupt the flow of play for almost every player. Not Ty; he bounced out of the rain delay and got back on track quickly.”

Otto had a strong day as well, shooting an 82 for 17th place. “This was one of his better outings,” said Kilgore. “The rest of our team didn’t recover as well from the weather delay we experienced. Spring sports in Missouri are difficult because of the changing weather. Delays get you out of focus and out of rhythm, especially in golf.”

Stuecken earned 26th for his 84, as N. Howe shot an 88 for 32nd place, and T. Crowe’s 92 was good for 42nd place.
