Fatima delivered its strongest performance of the season on Friday, capturing the team title at the MMA Invitational with a 312 and placing all five varsity golfers in the 70s and low 80s.
The Comets’ balanced scoring powered them to first place in the full field, with Ty Brandt leading the way with a 71 to finish second individually. Evan Otto followed with a 78, while Xavier “Chet” Stuecken carded an 81, Nick Howe added an 82, and Trevor Crowe rounded out the scoring with an 83.
Coach Scott Kilgore said the result reflected what the team has been building toward throughout the season. “We knew these guys were capable of these types of numbers,” he said. “We were seeing something similar in practices and nine-hole matches. It was just nice to finally get it done in 18 holes.
Fatima’s 312 marked its best team score of the year and came against a competitive invitational field, with the Comets separating themselves through consistency across the lineup rather than relying on a single low round. “You really can’t ask for much more as a coach when you get this type of performance from your athletes,” said Kilgore.
Additional Fatima golfers competing included Carson Fick (48), Eli Massman (49), Ben Reinsch (55), and Joe Carwile (61).
The win provides momentum for Fatima as the team moves into the final stretch of the season, with Kilgore hopeful the Comets can carry the same level of play forward.
“I’m hoping the boys can continue this type of play going into next week and throughout the remainder of the season,” he said.
