Fatima golfers win Linn match to open season

Fatima’s varsity golfers scored 213 to win Thursday’s golf match at Linn, defeating

South Callaway (214) and the host Wildcats (222).

“We really weren’t expecting too many low scores from Thursday night’s match,” said Coach Scott Kilgore. “ The weather was pretty warm for this time of year and it was pretty windy.  Also, Linn aerated their greens earlier in the day so the ball was doing crazy things on the greens.”

All and all, Kilgore said the team managed fairly well. “It was nice to be able to get all of our golfers on the course,” said Kilgore of his 17-man roster. “We thank Linn’s coach for allowing us to bring everyone. I know our parents really appreciate that as well. Scores are not going to be very consistent here at the beginning of the season.  However, as we get more matches under our belts, players will hopefully get more comfortable on the course and focus on lowering scores.”

Evan Otto led the way with a 40 to win the match, as Ty Brandt, Nick Howe, and Xavier “Chet” Stuecken each carded a 42 to earn a share of fourth. Cole Jaegers, Dylan Schwartze, and  shot 47 apiece to tie for 11th, followed by Ryan Jansen and Noah Wilbers (tied for 14th, 48), Hank Stuckenschneider (18th, 51), Dylan Crowe and Toren Orscheln (tied for 20th, 53), Ben Reinsch and Carson Fick (tied for 23rd, 55), and Eli Massman (28th, 59).
