Fatima bounced back from a difficult loss to Helias with a five-set victory at New Haven last week.
The Lady Comets fell to Helias 25-5, 25-15, 25-16 before responding the following night with a 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 15-8 victory over New Haven.
Coach Ellie Crede said the Helias match provided Fatima with a clear look at areas that need improvement.
“We had a tough night against a very strong Helias team,” Crede said. “Although the score did not go our way, the match gave us a good opportunity to see areas where we need to improve and continue to grow as a team.”
Fatima came out strong against New Haven, winning the opening two sets before the Lady Shamrocks battled back to force a fifth.
The Lady Comets regained control in the deciding set, winning 15-8.
“Our girls did a great job of regrouping and maintaining their composure in the fifth set,” Crede said.
She was particularly pleased with the response coming one night after the Helias loss.
“Going five sets and being able to battle through the momentum swings showed a lot of resilience and determination,” Crede said. “We still have plenty of things we want to clean up and improve, but the way this group continues to fight and respond to adversity is encouraging.”
Fatima improved to 3-4 with the victory.
