Fatima track teams vie for top spots at two meets

Fatima’s track and field teams turned in a strong week across two meets, highlighted by multiple event wins, relay success, and continued improvement as the postseason approaches.

Coach Marc Bridges said the Comets had a good week, with great weather for both of our meets. “Our athletes are competing really well and seem to be improving right on schedule for districts in a couple weeks,” said Bridges. “We had lots of personal bests this week.”

At the Montgomery County Invitational last Monday, the Comets placed second with 102.5 points, while the girls finished fifth with 71.5.

The 4x400 relay team of Zack Eisterhold, Grant Wilbers, Trace Walters, and Zach Kloeppel won in 3:38.67, while the 4x800 team of Michael Gabelsberger, Brady Horton, Wyatt Dake, and Kloeppel also placed first (8:23.61).

Drew Riegel cleared 4.40m to win the pole vault, while Grant Wilbers recorded three runner-up finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (16.86), 300-meter hurdles (42.98), and javelin (47.92m).

Zach Kloeppel added a second-place finish in the 800 (2:05.91), and Trenton Orscheln placed second in the 3200 (10:42.79).

Michael Gabelsberger placed third in the 1600 (4:37.89), and Zack Eisterhold added a third-place finish in the 400 (53.67).

On the girls’ side, Brie Massman led the girls with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:24.29), while the 4x200 relay team of Karly Bock, Avery Berhorst, Sadi Lehmen, and Alex Berhorst also captured gold (1:54.24).

The 4x400 relay team of Addy Bower, Alex Berhorst, Avery Berhorst, and Massman added another first-place finish (4:20.88), while the 4x800 team of Avery Berhorst, Alex Berhorst, Melissa Verslues, and Massman placed second (10:21.98).

Karly Bock, Lehmen, Maggie Peters, and Alex Berhorst placed third in the 4x100 relay (53.90), and Peters earned second in the pole vault (2.85m).

Bower added fourth-place finishes in the 400-meter dash (1:06.30) and high jump (1.43m).

Saturday’s Clinton Invitational saw Fatima’s boys earn third with 98 points, while the girls again finished fifth with 67.

Kloeppel won the 800 (PR 1:58.29), while Grant Wilbers swept both hurdle events, taking first in the 110m (PR 16.70) and 300m (PR 43.18) hurdles. Riegel added a first-place finish in the javelin (43.39m), and Wilbers placed second (43.06m).

Eisterhold claimed second in the 400 (53.99), Havens added a second-place finish in the high jump (1.75m), and Gabelsberger took second in the 3200 (10:40.11).

Horton placed third in the 1600 (4:48.46), and the 4x400 relay team of Eisterhold, Kloeppel, Wilbers, and Walters finished fourth (3:46.30).

In girls’ action, Massman continued her strong week with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run (PR 2:22.62), while Avery Berhorst placed second in the 200 (28.09).

The 4x400 relay team of Alex Berhorst, Avery Berhorst, Bower, and Massman placed second, while the 4x200 team of Alex Berhorst, Bock, Peters, and Massman took third.

Verslues added a third-place finish in the 1600 (5:47.29), while Alex Berhorst placed fourth in the 400 (1:07.06).
