Last Wednesday afternoon, Fatima’s Comet and Lady Comet wrestlers welcomed North Callaway’s Thunderbirds to Fatima High School (FHS) for an assembly dual in front of the FHS student body.
First up were the Lady Comets taking on the Lady Thunderbirds.
Winning the dual 42-12, both schools split the two contested matches with Heidi Struemph pinning Khloe Schuldt in 1:54 at 130 pounds, while Draven Cole was pinned in 1:10 at 135 pounds by Ella Baker.
“Heidi continued to impress last week, taking her girl down and finishing her off with a pin,” said Coach Kurt Strope.
Earning wins by forfeit for Fatima included Aubrey Wieberg (100), Journey Markway (115), Renee Wilbers (120), Elizabeth Meyer (125), Bailey Buschjost (155) and Ivy Ruecker (170).
Boys action saw the Comets fall 40-24 to North Callaway in spite of wins by fall from Tucker Tune (120) over Carter Anderson in 1:20, Thomas Kremer (126) over Eli Borcherding in 2:57 and Logan Laux (150) over Carver Safranski in 3:37.
William Berhorst also won an 11-10 decision over Leyton Crane at 113 pounds while Zack Kloeppel also won an 8-2 decision over Bryce Haden at 144 pounds.
“We lost a close one with the boys even though we won more actual head-to-head matches,” said Strope. “I was impressed with the wins by Will and Zach. Both wrestled hard matches and won against individuals that were ranked higher than them.”
Losing contested matches for the Comets were Caden Rosentreter (103), Tucker Schroeder (138), Jesse Schroeder (175) and Harlan Deardeuff (190).
Fatima is scheduled to compete tomorrow (Thursday) night in a tri-meet at California while the Lady Comets will travel to Seckman for their girls tournament on Saturday.
