Fatima (13-15) saw its softball season come to an end on Thursday in the Class 2, District 3 semis at South Callaway in a 4-1 loss to New Bloomfield.

“The girls played a hard-fought game and left it all on the field,” said Coach Ashlee Schnieders. “Throughout this season, these girls proved many people wrong and grew as players and people! It has been a pleasure to watch them grow and an honor to have had the opportunity to coach them. To our seniors, we thank them for all the hard work and dedication they gave to the team over the years. We wish them nothing but the best in their future adventures.”

Fatima’s lone run came in the third. Karley Schaben drew a one-out walk, and Sadi Lehmen (1-3, RBI) drove her in with a triple to left field.

Rylie Wieberg led the offense with two hits, including a double, as Elise Dickneite, and Alyssa Reichel added a base hit apiece.

Ava Heckemeyer allowed one earned run on two hits, with three strikeouts and four walks in a four-inning start. Wieberg allowed no earned runs on one hit with two walks in two innings of relief.

In the district opener last Wednesday, Fatima beat Vienna 3-2.

Tied at 1-1 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Comets tacked on two. Dickneite (1-3, RBI) and Lehmen drew consecutive walks, and Maci Wilbers (2-4, double, 2 RBI) brought them home on a hard-hit ball to left field.

Wieberg had the team’s other hit.

From the circle, Wieberg went the distance, allowing one earned run on two hits, with five strikeouts and four walks.
