Public and parochial schools in Osage County will continue offering free lunch and breakfast to everyone 18 and younger in the community.
Chamois R-1 and Linn R-2 offered summer school, during which time the program was launched by the Department of Health and Senior Services. Continuing free meals is an extension of that program and all students are eligible, regardless of whether they normally qualify for free or reduced meals.
Fatima R-3, however, did not offer summer school and had to apply for the program through different means. Superintendent Chuck Woody explained the school is eligible due to the fact there was an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
In addition to public schools, free food service is open to all students and to anyone in the community under the age of 18. The program is administered by the Department of Health and Senior Services and will be extended until Dec. 31 or until funding is exhausted.
Linn R-2 has partnered with St. George to allow that school to provide free breakfast and lunch for its students. Likewise, Fatima will provide meals to students within the district boundaries that attend parochial school.
