Grellner dismisses charge against Edwards

OSAGE COUNTY  — Osage County Prosecuting Attorney Amanda Grellner confirmed that she dismissed a Class D felony charge of second-degree domestic assault against former Chamois mayor Michael P. Edwards, 45, pleaded not guilty after allegedly attacking his girlfriend on July 4.

“There are facts and circumstances surrounding the dismissal that I am unable to comment on due to ethics rules,” said Grellner.

Edwards, who resigned from his position as mayor because he was required to live with his parents outside city limits, was charged after the victim allegedly discovered proof of an affair.

“While trying to take the phone away, the defendant tried to take (her) phone,” Deputy Chris Morgan wrote in the probable cause statement. “While trying to take the phone away, the defendant grabbed (her) by the throat, choking and restraining (her) for approximately three minutes.”

Morgan wrote in his report that the victim “bit the defendant on the chest, allowing (her) to escape but not before getting punched in the mouth with a closed fist.”

Deputies confirmed the victim had a loose tooth from the attack, and bruising on her right arm and leg were consistent with her account of the assault, according to the PC statement. Photos of the bruising were taken by deputies.
