James Henry Huhn, 86, Folk, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 17, 1935, to the late Ben and Hilda (Kaiser) Huhn in Folk.
He was united in marriage to Claire Ann (Strope) May 2, 1964, in St. Thomas at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
James attended St. Anthony of Padua of Folk school until the eighth grade. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a private for a short time until he was honorably discharged to take care of the family farm. James was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
He was employed at Netwig lumber yard, he worked with a neighbor cutting railroad ties for several years and was employed as a truck driver with his brothers at Huhn Bros. Trucking until he left to farm with his brother Edward. James was also a lifetime farmer where he owned dairy cattle for 39 years and raised beef, chickens, hogs and crops.
He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, his dogs and being on the farm. James was a baseball coach for his sons’ baseball teams for multiple years and bowled. He would take his grandchildren on four-wheeler rides to the creek and sled rides in the snow during the winter. James loved to play ball in the backyard with his children and grandchildren at family gatherings. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events and loved to fish and hunt as well as play a great game of cards and Bingo.
James was preceded in death by parents Ben and Hilda; son, Ronald; brothers, Jerome, Clarence and Vincent Huhn and infant brother Robert; sisters, Hermina Fitzpatrick, Evelyn Stratman and Elaine Huhn; brothers-in-law, Tom Fitzpatrick, Cellus Stratman, James Loethen and Albert Bexten.
His is survived by wife, Claire of the home; children, Mark Huhn and wife Theresa and Keith Huhn and wife Sarah, all of Folk, Stephanie Laux and husband Steve of Koeltztown, Michelle Gabelsberger and husband Kevin of Frankenstein and Kristen Holtmeyer and husband Darin of St. Elizabeth; grandchildren: Katelyn, Cody, Raegan and Madelyn Huhn, Morgan, Lucas, Nolan and Logan Laux, Megan, Michael and Maria Gabelsberger and Levi, Austin, Jacob and Tegan Holtmeyer; sisters, Marilyn Loethen of Hallsville, Ethel Huhn and Bernice Bexten, both of Westphalia; brothers, Joe Huhn and wife Alice of Centertown and Edward Huhn of Westphalia; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Huhn of Folk and Dorothy Huhn of Westphalia.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, Sept. 24, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Folk with the Rev. Anthony Viviano officiating.
Interment was in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Cemetery in Folk.
Memorial contributions suggested to the Alzheimer Association or Hospice Compassus.
