Jessie M. (McDaniel) Spillman, 93, Loose Creek, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City.

She was born Nov. 2, 1929, to the late Will and Bess (Branson) McDaniel on the family farm near Linn.

She attended McDaniel School which was a mile and half from her house.  Jessie loved school and all sports with awards and honors during high school. She was a 1948 graduate of Linn High School. 

Jessie was united in marriage to the love of her life, James “Jay” Spillman Dec. 14, 1948, in St. Louis. Jay preceded her in death on January 6, 2021.

She was a homemaker, who enjoyed helping her sons with Cub Scouts. Jessie also owned a dress shop called Jessica’s Fashionation for several years and also worked at the Hallmark Shop in St. Louis.  When they moved back to Linn in 1983, Jessie was employed at State Technical College as a receptionist until she retired in 1996.

She was a member of Community Christian Church in Linn.

Jessie enjoyed playing pranks on people, hosting parties, watching golf and listening to swing, country and gospel music. 

She was preceded in death by husband of 72 years, James; parents, Will and Bess; brothers, Homer and Robert McDaniel; and sisters, Mabel and June Wolfe and Virginia McDaniel. 

Jessie is survived by sons, Camron Spillman and wife Marlene of St. Louis and Gregory Spillman and wife Teri of Loose Creek; grandchildren, Lindsey Murphy and husband Curtis and Gregory Spillman, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Angela, Chelsea and Sean; great-grandchildren, Cale and Seraphina Murphy and Atlas Heyen; step-great-grandchildren, Lily and Kaitlin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 23, at Morton Chapel in Linn with Matt Hodgen officiating.  Interment was in the Linn Public Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
