SULLIVAN — Fatima scored 40 runs across four games to open the season with a 3-1 record Friday and Saturday at the Sullivan Tournament.

The Lady Comets collected 40 hits while defeating Pacific 14-1, Webster Groves 15-2, and Sullivan 9-3. Their only loss came against Chaffee, 7-2.

“We had a good weekend,” Fatima coach Dan Campbell said. “We got four games in, got some girls some good experience, and were able to win three out of those four.”

Rylie Wieberg and Kamryn Lee were named to the All-Tournament team. Lee led Fatima offensively, going 7-for-13 with four doubles, one home run, five RBI, and six runs scored.

“The pitchers did a good job throwing strikes for the most part, and we hit the ball pretty well,” Campbell said. “We had a few defensive miscues, which was a little disappointing, but we’ll get it corrected.”

Campbell was especially pleased with the Lady Comets’ work on the bases.

“Our base-running was excellent, which is very promising to see it translate from practice to games,” he said.

Fatima opened Friday with 12 hits in a four-inning victory against Pacific. The Lady Comets erupted for eight runs in the second inning and added six in the third.

Wieberg supplied the biggest blow with a two-run home run. Emma Schwartze and Ava Heckemeyer each went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Lee finished 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Sadi Lehman, Maci Wilbers, Gracie Atkins, Chloe Voss, and Marlee Oliver each added a hit. Lehman, Wilbers, and Oliver drove in one run apiece.

Wieberg earned the victory after holding Pacific scoreless on one hit through three innings. She struck out five and walked one. Carmen Luebbering worked the fourth inning, allowing one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout.

Chaffee scored in each of the first three innings and built a 6-0 advantage before Fatima broke through with two runs in the fourth.

Atkins doubled and drove in one run, while Oliver singled and collected the Lady Comets’ other RBI. Lehman added a double, and Lucy Warren and Heckemeyer each singled.

Heckemeyer allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits over four innings. She struck out two and walked two. Luebbering pitched the final inning, surrendering one unearned run on one hit.

Fatima rebounded Saturday by scoring nine runs in the fourth inning to finish a 15-2 victory against Webster Groves.

Lee went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and three runs scored. Atkins doubled twice and scored three runs, while Wilbers went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Warren and Heckemeyer each drove in two runs. Alysa Reichel went 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Wieberg doubled, drove in one run, and scored twice. Claire Wulff also contributed a hit.

Heckemeyer limited Webster Groves to two hits over four innings. She allowed two runs, one earned, struck out four, and walked one.

The Lady Comets closed the tournament with a 9-3 victory against Sullivan. Fatima scored twice in each of the first two innings, added three in the third, and tacked on two more in the fifth.

Lee and Wilbers each finished with three hits. Lee doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Wilbers doubled and collected three RBI.

Wieberg contributed two hits, including a double, and drove in one run. Lehman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Heckemeyer added an RBI single, and Warren also singled.

Wieberg pitched all six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. She struck out one and walked one.

Wilbers finished the tournament 6-for-11 with two doubles and five RBI, while Heckemeyer went 5-for-10 with five RBI.

Wieberg worked nine innings across her two starts, allowing three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Heckemeyer pitched eight innings, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking three.

“Overall, I was pleased with our effort, attitude, and overall play,” Campbell said. “It was a nice start to the season. Now we’ll see if we can continue it this week and continue to get better.”
