Fatima went on the road last week and beat New Franklin, 51-46, as two Lady Comets reached double figures.
“I was pretty pleased with how the girls played,” said Coach John Fick, noting the girls contained the other team’s best player, Lily Chitwood, to just nine first-half points. She passed her 2,000th career point in that game. “It was only a matter of time until she got going; she’s just a natural scorer.”
Fatima opened a seven-point lead through the first quarter and extended it to eight by the break. Though NF won the fourth and cut the lead, the Lady Comets had built a cushion.
Alex Berhorst led with 15 points, including two three-pointers. “As the season has progressed, she’s found more confidence in her outside shooting ability; it’s the right time of the year for her to see her shots falling,” said Fick.
Adalyn Berhorst knocked down two treys and posted 11 points, followed by Casey Kleffner (2 treys) and Rylie Wieberg (trey), each with six, Kacey Brune (trey, 2-2 FT) with five, Natalie Wilbers and Anna Struemph (3 each), and Anne Boyce (2). Kleffner posted three assists.
Rebounding efforts were led by Alex Berhorst (9) and Adalyn Berhorst (8), followed by Wilbers (4), Jane Boyce and Brie Massman (2 apiece), and Struemph, A. Boyce, and Wieberg (1 each).
On the defensive side, Wilbers counted four steals, and Alex Berhorst added three, with two more apiece from Kleffner and A. Boyce.
