Fatima wrestlers competed at Capital City last weekend, the girls winning the event on Friday as the boys finished eighth on Saturday.

In girls’ action, Heidi Struemph led the group of seven girls to victory. “Heidi was impressive, defeating all her opponents very decisively,” said Coach Kurt. Strope.

Struemph (130) entered the fray after a first-round bye, and won her next three matches for first place.

She defeated Knyla`lee Camareno (Winnetonka — TF 15-0, 2:10) in the quarters, then pinned Dana Gibbs (Moberly, 2:45) and Kamora Merchant (Macks Creek, 0:29).

Ivy Ruecker (155) won the seventh-place match to finish 2-5 on the night, as Emilie Bonnot (190) went 0-2 with a bye in the seventh-place match. Also competing were Journey Markway (115, 1-4), Elizabeth Meyer (120, 1-4), Draven Cole (135, 0-4), and Aubrey Wieberg (100, 0-5). “They all showed great improvement; all of them were on the attack in each of their matches,” said Coach Strope. “As the year continues, they just have to clean things up and learn to believe in themselves.”

On Saturday, the Comets went 1-4 in the Cap City dual tournament to finish eight among 10 teams.

“We wrestled some good competition and we were short-handed, with only eight wrestlers competing,” said Strope. Overall, I thought we wrestled well. We made a few mistakes here and there, but overall we were attacking, and that led to us getting several individual victories during the duals.”

Fatima’s win came in a 41-30 decision over St. James.

In contested action, Nolan Laux (138) defeated Ian Lucas (fall, 1:32), Tucker Schroeder (144) beat Elijah Eads (fall, 1:40), Zachary Kloeppel (150) won over Lucas Bell (fall, 0:56), Caden Rosentreter (106) defeated Jordan Trotter (fall, 1:48), and Jesse Schroeder (175) beat Mac Damewood (TF, 15-0, 2:17). Harlan Deardeuff suffered the team’s lone contested loss.

Fatima lost to Jefferson City, 58-18, Moberly, 54-18, Raymore-Peculiar, 56-20, and Windsor (Imperial), 46-29.

Match records for the day in head-to-head competition, including the St. James match: Kloeppel (5-0), J. Schroeder (4-1), T. Schroeder (3-1), Rosentreter (2-0), William Berhorst (113, 2-1), N. Laux (2-3), Logan Laux (157, 0-2), and Deardeuff (0-5).
