OWENSVILLE — Fatima placed five runners among the top 10 on Saturday as Brie Massman and Lexi Massman’s one-two finish led the Lady Comets to win the Owensville Triangular.
Fatima finished with 22 points in the two-mile race, which also included Owensville and Borgia. The Fatima boys scored 39 points to place second.
The shorter distance provided an early competitive test before the Comets move into the traditional 5K portion of their schedule.
“It was good to have a short race to start the season to get our younger runners some experience and allow our more experienced runners to get back into a competitive role before we begin racing 5K,” said Fatima coach Marc Bridges. “I was pleased with how all of our runners performed, and we will use what we learned to get ready for our meet this week in Bolivar.”
Brie Massman led the girls’ field with a winning time of 13:11, and Lexi Massman followed in second place at 13:52.
Melissa Verslues placed fifth in 15:14, Zoey Wilbers was sixth in 15:34, followed by Rose Backes (10, 16:09), Claire Troesser (17, 17:42), and Journey Markway (23, 19:46).
Michael Gabelsberger led the Fatima boys with a runner-up finish in 10:23.
Wyatt Dake placed sixth in 11:28, followed by Trenton Orscheln (8, 11:50), Evan Kampeter (9, 11:52), Austin Woehr (14, 12:08), Tucker Schroeder (17, 13:04), Wyatt Kolb (22, 13:23), and Conner Peters (23, 13:35).
Fatima returns to competition this week in Bolivar.
