LINN  — Sheriff Mike Bonham said his department spend several hours last week searching for Derek C. Holtmeyer, 35, of Linn, who was last seen on Monday, July 10.

Late last week, Bonham filed a Missing Persons Report with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which has posted a flyer on its website.

“The detective who responded to the scene initiated a search of the immediate area for about two hours,” said Bonham.

Members of the Linn Fire Protection District searched the area near Rt. N at Hwy. 50 for about four hours, and deputies used a drone to search the wooded area for four to six hours on Thursday, Bonham said.

“I requested a Highway Patrol helicopter but the circumstances didn’t meet the threshold to send one up,” said Bonham. “This is a grown man with the right to do what he wants or go where he chooses. It’s a different situation when children are involved.”

However, deputies continue to search for leads.

Holtmeyer’s family provided bloodhounds, which found two trails. One led to a neighboring trailer, but Bonham said there was no sign of foul play.

“We located his truck and we found no signs in it that anything was amiss,” said Bonham.

Holtmeyer has blonde hair and green eyes. He’s 5’9 and weighs 220 pounds.

If anyone has information regarding Holtmeyer’s whereabouts, please contact the Osage County Sheriff’s Office at 573-897-3927. Detective Nick Pappas has been assigned to the case.
