Morrison duo charged after drug bust

LINN  — Danielle N. Branson, 32, and Eric L. Campbell, 44, both of Morrison, have been charged with second-degree drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia following their Aug. 30 arrest at the Ben Branch Conservation Area.

Osage County Sheriff Deputy Ben Sallin and Missouri Department of Conservation Agent K. Stoner were conducting field interviews when a camera was found mounted to a tree near a camper. Because this violates Conservation rules, law enforcement officials spoke with the camper’s owners.

While speaking with them, Sallin saw a generator near the camper he believed to be possibly stolen from an individual in another case he is investigating. They also observed a white Ford pickup truck near the camper, and a Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) query on the license plate indicated it had been reported stolen.

Osage County Dispatch informed Sallin that Campbell was on probation for narcotics. He and Branson consented to a search of the camper, during which Sallin found a clear glass smoking device containing a burnt residue.

According to the probable cause statement, Branson made a “spontaneous utterance that more narcotics were located inside the camper.”

Sallin followed Branson into the camper, where she located a small bag inside a closet containing male clothing and 35 grams of a white crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Also in the bag were two used and three unused baggies and a scale containing a white crystalline residue.

Branson stated the narcotics were hers; however, they were found inside a closet that Campbell said was his and contained his belongings. Sallin also located a homemade water bong commonly used to inhale methamphetamines.

Branson told Sallin the white Ford pickup truck was hers and provided consent to search. Sallin and Stone found nothing illicit in the vehicle and seized the license plate.

Branson and Campbell were transported to the Osage County Detention Center without incident and are being held on no-bond warrants.
