Patrick Peter Haller, 88, Freeburg, passed away on March 24, 2026, surrounded by his family.
“Papa Pat” embodied the famous quote from St. Teresa of Calcutta: “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”
He lived and farmed his entire life on land passed down for several generations.
Patrick was a quiet, humble, hard-working man who let his actions speak the words he kept to himself.
He served his country with the Army National Guard for six years; and served his community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council and American Legion, as a well as a Eucharistic minister at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Patrick was always ready to lend a hand anywhere else he may have seen a need. He raised his children while caring for his aging mother, then cared for his eldest sister until her passing last September. In his free time, Patrick enjoyed golfing and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife; three children; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions suggested to the Holy Family Catholic School Building Project.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, with Rev. William D. Debo officiating.
Interment was in the Holy Family Church Cemetery in Freeburg.
