OSAGE COUNTY — Republicans unanimously selected Donald J. Trump for President at their caucus on Saturday at the Osage County Library.
Osage County Republican Central Committee Chair Mark Lieneke said turnout was about twice the number who participated in the 2016 election. “I’m very pleased with the attendance and attendees,” he said.
David and Gina Kroeger of Linn and Justin and Dana Haines of Freeburg were elected to serve as delegates, and Craig and Linda Rantz of Linn and George Luebbering and Shirley Luebbering of Koeltztown will serve as alternate delegates.
These delegates will participate in the convention for the US Congressional 3rd District and the state Republican convention on April 2.
At the former, three delegates will be elected to go to the state or national convention. During the state convention on May 4 in Springfield, 27 delegates will be selected to attend the national convention.
Lieneke explained that delegates are bound to vote for the candidate chosen by the caucus. “After that, they become open and can vote for whoever they want,” he said.
Caucus members also voted to accept proposed platform changes to the Republican Party this year.
The first amendment involves healthcare freedom, which allows every Missourian the right to refuse interventions, and protecting the rights to be informed about exposure to mRNA and/or gene-altering therapies and medical technologies or treatments.
Another amendment encourages moving to a constitutionally protected sheriff instead of the election system.
Amendments also included faith, children’s education, ethics, and others. Changes to the platform will be decided at the state convention.
