Roman Michael Scheulen, 82, Linn, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 30, 1940, to the late Albert and Mary (Haslag) Scheulen in Westphalia.

He was a 1959 graduate of Fatima High School.

Roman was united in marriage to Pauline Schwartze June 15, 1963, at Visitation Catholic Church in Vienna. 

He was employed by the Missouri Department of Conservation, and later became a route driver for Holsum Bread Company for 30 years before retiring. After retirement, Roman drove a school bus in Jefferson City and then drove for the Rudroff Bus Company in Linn on the Frankenstein and Rich Fountain routes.

He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4838 in Linn and a 4th Degree member of the St. Jude’s General Assembly 2811 of Westphalia. Roman and Pauline were Rosary Rally leaders of Our Lady of Fatima in Linn for whom Roman had a deep devotion.  He was also a member of the Teamsters Union.

Roman enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, trail riding, and mushroom hunting, and was a self-taught guitar player. He took great pride in his “hobby farm” and looked forward every year to the Scheulen Family campout. 

Roman was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Mary; grandson, Austin Harmon; an infant brother, Leon; and brother-in-law, Richard Woehr.     

He is survived by spouse of 60 years, Pauline; sons, Daniel Scheulen and wife Melissa and Dennis Scheulen and wife Lisa, all of Taos; daughters, Debra “Debbie” Jaegers and husband Scott of Linn, Donna Bell and husband John of Marceline, Doris Haller and husband Brad of Rich Fountain and Denise “Dede” Turner and significant other, Kyle Maasen of Westphalia; brothers, Vernon “Kelly” Scheulen and wife Emily of Jefferson City and Allen Scheulen and wife, Rose Ann of Rich Fountain; sister, Theresa Woehr of Westphalia; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, June 17, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Fr. Colin Franklin officiating. Interment was in the St. George Parish Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Helias Foundation, Masses or a charity of the donor’s choice.
