State Tech career expo draws 133 companies

Last Wednesday’s career expo at State Tech was very successful, with only seven of the 140 registered companies canceling due to inclement weather.

State Tech VP of Advancement Shannon Grus noted that more than 40 companies held interviews with students that afternoon for both full-time positions upon graduation and for summer internships.

“Employers absolutely appreciated the event because we conducted it in-person,” said Grus. “This event once again proves why we say State Tech is the Employers’ Choice!’

State Tech boasts an impressive 99% job placement rate for students when they graduate, which provides a positive impact on Missouri’s workforce development needs.

This year, even with COVID, State Tech was able to bring 140 industry partners safely to campus to participate in the Career Expo.

“This event allows us to not only assist our students in their career placement goals but also to help our industry partners meet their workforce needs for the future,” said Grus.

One industry partner made the drive from Kansas City alone to the expo because a co-worker was ill. “I took longer than expected with my interviews, but man it was worth it,” she said. “I’m so glad I made the trip. I appreciate the opportunity to interview and talk to students in person.”

“State Tech’s Career Expo is one of the best days of the year,” said Grus added. “Watching our students explore their career opportunities and get job offers, while hearing from our industry partners about how excited they are to hire them, truly makes us proud.”

State Tech also offers free lifetime career services to all alumni, who are encouraged to sign up for an account on HireEagles. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this online system allows alumni to create and manage a personal account. Users can search for jobs by major and receive notifications for new job opportunities.
