State Tech projects continue to progress

LINN  — State Tech President Dr. Shawn Strong this week said he’s pleased with the continued progress of several projects, including the replacement of gym floors in the Activity Center.

“The floors look great,” he said, noting the project has been a priority since the Activity Center was flooded last year. “Our contractors are doing a great job, and I think the change will be welcome.”

Charles Luebbert Flooring is overseeing the gym project, and B&P Patterson removed the concrete between the old courts.

“We now have one continuous court that can still be divided into three,” said Dr. Strong.

While the court is big enough to play collegiate basketball, Dr. Strong said he could not envision any circumstances that would lead to State Tech starting college basketball during his tenure. “I want everyone to be clear that this does give us a college-sized court, and we have flexibility, but I don’t expect us to start playing college basketball,” he added.

At the State Tech Golf Center, construction continues, with the installation of rebar in the pool walls this week and part of next. Next will be the pool floor, and Dr. Strong said that while it’s going slowly now, once the concrete is poured, things will develop rather quickly.

Annual memberships are available at www.statetechmo.edu/campus-life/state-tech-golf-center, and show a family rate of $800, which includes everyone in the immediate family until the age of 24. Senior (55+) couples will pay $700, individual seniors are $600, individual adults (18+) will pay $650, and juniors under 18 will pay $300. Greens fees with a cart will cost $30 for 18 holes and half that for nine; playing without a cart will cost $20 for 18 and $10 for nine holes.

Additional memberships include cart ($350), pool ($500), and pool with a golf membership ($400).

Dr. Strong said golf course rates were low compared to other nine-hole courses in the area, but there were fewer amenities.

“Now, with the pool and theater and everything else we have to offer, we believe our prices are in line with others, but we have the best nine-hole golf course in Central Missouri,” he added.

The Dr. Donald M. Claycomb Information Technology Center will be closed this summer for renovations. Guests are asked to check in at the Utility Technology Center at the back of campus. Incoming students should report to the Utility Technology Center with any questions.

The one area of the Information Technology Center that will remain open is the doorway into the cafeteria for campus dining services inside Founders 1961.
