Fatima senior grappler Heidi Struemph earned second place at last week’s Battle of the Katy Trail and earned her 100th career win.

“It has been awesome to see her grow as a wrestler, and become one the dominant girls competing in high school,” said Coach Kurt Strope.

Struemph (130) follows JH Coach Skyla Schroeder to become just the Second Lady Comet in school history to reach this mark.

After cruising through the first four rounds with three pins and a medical forfeit, Struemph’s run came to an end in the finals against Elizabeth Hager of Lexington.

Overall, the girls finished 33rd among 50 teams. Other competitors were Aubrey Wieberg, Draven Cole, Bailey Buschjost, Ivy Ruecker, and Emilie Bonnot.

On the boys’ side, Fatima finished 17th among 47 teams, with Caden Rosentreter (106), Nolan Laux (138), and Jesse Schroeder (175) earning fourth.

— Rosentreter won his first two matches before losing the third. After two byes, he won the next two to advance to the third-place match, where he lost to Bryson Tillman of North Callaway (SV-1, 12-9).

— Laux split his first two matches and then had a bye. From there, he defeated his next three opponents before falling to Rylee Dupignac of Lathrop (Dec, 5-2).

— Schroeder opened with a pair of wins, then lost the third-round match. Following a bye, Schroeder won three straight to enter the third-place match. He lost to Wyatt Haden of North Callaway (Dec, 7-5).

Also competing were Will Berhorst, Thomas Kremer, Tucker Schroeder, and Ryder Herzing.

Fatima’s junior high wrestling team finished off a good season with duals at Blair Oaks and at Fatima. “I think each of them have made strides in improving their skills, and have grown in confidence along the way,” said Coach Kurt Strope. “They will each now have the opportunity to join the kids’ club and continue to compete after Christmas.”
