A potentially scary situation unfolded Friday morning, but Sheriff Mike Bonham said the arrest of two men on outstanding warrants went relatively smoothly.
“We’re not used to having warrants of this nature,” said Bonham. “My first priority is the safety of my officers, and in this case, communication was excellent as we took these men into custody.”
Cory Simpson, 51 of Jonesboro, Ark., was arrested on a Dunklin County probation violation warrant on the original charge of second-degree murder, and Villibaldo Calderon, 43, of Kennett, was arrested on a Mississippi County, Ark., warrant on an original charge of possession of methamphetamine.
It began as a call at 6:45 a.m. to check on a disabled vehicle parked in the lot of Community of Christ Church on Hwy. 50, east of Linn.
Deputy Rick Jarvis and Deputy Cottingham Identified the three individuals in the vehicle, all of whom had active warrants out of Dunklin County, and a fourth subject had walked to a local business to pick up gas for the car. He was later identified, and also had a warrant out of Mississippi County, Ark.
Bonham explained that because of the distance from Dunklin County, located in the Missouri bootheel, two were released at the scene due to the fact the warrants did not request expedition.
Simpson and Calderon were transported to the Osage County Jail, where they are awaiting expedition.
