Fatima welcomed St. Elizabeth for Friday’s Homecoming game, a 79-36 win for the Comets.
“Despite being our third game in four days, the boys came out with energy and focus,” said Coach Matt Baker. “Overall, I thought all of our kids, from top to bottom, played their roles exceptionally well, and we picked up a nice win on homecoming.”
Henry Robertson scored Fatima’s first five points, and then the two seniors took over. Xavier “Chet” Stuecken had several dunks, hit three three-pointers, and was solid on the glass. He went 5-5 from the stripe and scored a game-high 28 points.
Blake Kliethermes was in attack mode all night, hitting a trey as part of his 20-point effort.
Fatima dominated from the start, holding a 25-4 first-quarter edge that grew to 49-17 by halftime.
The Comets shot 68.9% from the field, shot 11-20 from beyond the arc, and went 6-9 at the line.
Ty Brandt (3-4 3PT) added nine points, Robertson and Evan Klouzek each drained a trey and finished with seven points, Bryce Wieberg (trey) added five, and Noah Wilbers (trey) posted three. Robertson, Kliethermes, and Stuecken shared the assists lead with three apiece.
Kliethermes and Wieberg led with seven rebounds apiece, Stuecken grabbed six, and Brandt snagged four, followed by Klouzek (3), and Robertson and Devin Luebbert (2 each).
Defensively, Stuecken and Wieberg claimed two steals each, and Klouzek had a block.
On Thursday, the Comets lost 63-58 to state-ranked Dixon. “We jumped out to a nice lead,” said Baker. “Blake was on early, and our defense held serve. Once Dixon switched to their pressure, we struggled with our decision-making, and we let them back in the game.”
Fatima’s five-point lead in the first slowly eroded in the second as the Bulldogs won the frame 16-8 to lead by three at the break.
The Comets kept it close until the end and won the fourth quarter by one point, finishing the night with a 42.3% shooting performance from the field.
Kliethermes led all scorers with 27 points after going 3-8 from long range and 2-4 at the line. He added seven assists, nine rebounds, a pair of steals, and a block.
Stuecken (2-2 FT) added eight points and 10 rebounds to go with six assists. Luebbert posted seven, Robertson (2 treys) put in six, and Klouzek (3-4 FT) and Wieberg (trey) scored five apiece.
On Tuesday, defeated a solid New Franklin team, 63-54.
“We started this game well, making tough shots and pushing the tempo,” said Baker as the Comets held a 28-20 halftime advantage. “Outside of missing FT’s, I was very pleased. In the third, we lost our focus on the defensive end of the floor and gave up 27 points. However, I was proud of how our young team responded, starting the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run and pushing the lead into double digits late in the game.”
Kliethermes paced the Comets with 22 points, including four three-pointers. Klouzek (3 treys) added 16, Stuecken posted 11, Robertson and Wieberg scored five each, and Luebbert finished with four. Robertson’s four assists led the team, and Stuecken and Kliethermes posted three apiece.
Defensively, Stuecken had four steals and three blocks, Luebbert and Klouzek posted two steals apiece, and Kliethermes added a block.
