Walter E. Nie, 90, Belle, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at the St. James Veteran’s Home.
He was born May 7, 1933, to the late Walter Joseph and Talytha Pauline (Woemmel) Nie in Maries County.
He was a lifelong area resident and a 1951 graduate of Belle High School. Following high school, Walter served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy Hammack June 3, 1956, at the Koenig Methodist Church.
In addition to working on the family farm all his life, he was employed at the International Shoe factory for 19 years and at the Belle post office for 25 years.
Walter was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy; and parents,Walter and Talytha.
He is survived by daughter, Carol Sue (Massey) Withouse; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Donald Nie and wife Jane.
Funeral services were held June 27, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle with Kevin Runge and Russell Walje officiating. Interment was in the Schanning Cemetery with full military honors.
