Where do you get your news?

Dear Editor,

It’s been an interesting news week, full of surprises.  Some examples: It seems the DOJ secretly subpoenaed Trump’s Twitter account back in January 2023.  Twitter complied after losing an appeal to the DC Appeals Court (shocker) in July; one reason cited for the secret gag order was that Trump might “flee prosecution.” Yeah, Trump’s a big flight risk alright.  Meanwhile, Joe Biden touted setting aside a million acres for a National Monument just outside the Grand Canyon Nation Park, effectively doubling the protected lands in that area.  The new designation stops mining in this uranium-rich expanse, making a scarce commodity even more scarce.  Environmentalists cheered over the protection of watersheds, but a huge US Geological Survey in 2021 could not point to any water contamination in the state, even after decades of uranium mining.  The ultimate irony is the US now leans on countries like Kazakhstan and even Russia for enriched uranium.  Did everyone in this administration simply fail Economic Geography?  Speaking of Kazakhstan, it’s the home of Kenes Rakishev, a business partner of Hunter’s who had lunch a few times with “the Big Guy” and Hunter while discussing “the weather”.  Seems Rakishev had money to invest in the West, but his money “smelled a bit too much” for most American firms.  Hunter’s job apparently was to “freshen the smell” of the cash with the Biden brand name. Hunter was paid a new sports car for his trouble and a lot more.  Besides smelly money, Rakishev has backed Chechnya’s blood-soaked leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, who directly supports the Russians in Ukraine. Rakishev should be sanctioned, but, no worries, he’s avoided them thanks to help from the POTUS brand name.  And we’ve also learned that one of Russia’s wealthiest women, Elena Baturina, is conspicuously not on the sanctions list either.   Probably had something to do with the $3.5 million she gave Hunter for “consulting” as she invested over $100M in Rosemont Realty (Hunter’s Real Estate firm).  And now that Hunter’s ‘sweetheart deal’ fell apart, Merick Garland to the rescue appointing David Weiss as a Special Counsel and the first thing discussed is moving the trial away from Delaware (Judge Maryellen Noreika’s Court) to an entirely new district, perhaps in Biden-friendly DC or California.  No Change of Venue for the Trumpster though!!

Now, interestingly enough, when you talk about these stories with friends, you’ll never hear anyone say “yes, I saw that on CNN (or MSNBC or ABC) last night.”  Why?  Because those outlets have a virtual news blackout on anything derogatory about Joe or his ‘bag-man’ Hunter.  Do you want news or propaganda?  Make your choice of news outlets a wise one.
