Bernice Theresa Schmitz, 99, Argyle, passed away Aug. 27, 2022, at Stonebridge Westphalia.
She was born March 21, 1923, to the late to Edwin and Genevieve (Renfert) Wildhaber.
She attended school in Argyle.
Bernice was married to Victor Anton Schmitz Oct. 17, 1946, at St. Aloysius Church in Argyle.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Church and adult choir, St. Ann’s Sodality, the Extension Club and the 4-H Club. Bernice was also a charter member of the Argyle VFW Auxiliary, serving one year as President and 56 years as Treasurer.
She held various jobs through the years in Jefferson City, St. Louis, Meta, Linn and Freeburg.
Bernice was preceded in death by husband, Vic; parents, Edwin and Genevieve; siblings, Marceline Branum, Doris Wankum and Kenneth, Ralph and Francis Wildhaber; nephews, Richard Branum and Richard Dudenhoeffer; nieces, Karen, Janice and Dorothy Dudenhoeffer.
She is survived by children, Barbara Jane Schmitz and Mark Gerard Schmitz and wife Donna, all of Argyle, Jerome (Jerry) Victor Schmitz of Jefferson City and Audrey Ann Schmitz and husband Ken Crowder of Tonkawa, Okla. four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Mary Ann Wildhaber.
Rosary and V.F.W. services will be held at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, with the visitation from 9 until 11 a.m. and a Mass of Christian burial following, all at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, with Reverends Ignacio Medina and Basil Tigga officiating. Interment will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Memorial contributions suggested for Masses, donations to St. Aloysius Church or charity of the donor’s choice.
