Defeating Mexico, Eldon and Fulton during their first three games of the inaugural Southern Boone Invitational baseball tournament, Fatima’s Comets looked to bring the championship hardware back to Westphalia with a win in the title game of the host Eagles Saturday afternoon.

Down 3-2 entering a do-or-die top of the seventh inning, Blake Kliethermes singled and scored to tie the game at 3-3 before Cody Schwartze scored the eventual game-winning run on a Brody Kleffner RBI single in the top of the eighth inning of their 4-3 victory.

Striking first in the top of the third inning, Fatima scored twice when Colten Scheulen reached on an error and scored on a Matt Robertson RBI single.

Bryce Wieberg also singled and scored for the Comets in the top of the third inning.

Southern Boone answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom half of the third to knot the game at 2-2 after three frames.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Southern Boone took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a run on two hits and a walk.

From that point, Fatima’s Tyler Bexten and Glenn Berhorst held the host Eagles scoreless the rest of the way to their 4-3 win.

Berhorst got the win pitching the eighth inning in relief of Bexten who took a no-decision pitching seven innings while allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks to go with two strikeouts.

Graham Boeckmann and Wieberg led the Comet offense with two hits against Southern Boone.

During their 5-4 tournament semifinal win over Fulton, Fatima scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Max Stuecken had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Comets against the Hornets.

Wieberg also drove in a pair of runs and score one without the aid of a hit.

Trevor Schulte, Easton Stuckenschneider and Berhorst also had hits for Fatima against Fulton.

Dylan Schwartze picked up the win for the Comets against Fulton pitching five innings allowing two runs on four hits and four walks to go with three strikeouts.

During Friday pool play in Mexico, Fatima broke a 1-1 tie after two innings with five unanswered runs between the third and fifth frames of their 6-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Stuckenschneider had two hits and three RBIs for the Comets while Wieberg also had a pair of doubles.

Sam Struemph got the win for the Comets pitching four innings allowing an unearned run on four hits and three walks to go with four strikeouts.

Opening pool play against the host Bulldogs in Mexico, Fatima scored all three of their runs with two outs in the middle innings of their 3-1 win over Mexico.

Kleffner and Boeckmann led the Comets with two hits apiece against the Bulldogs.

Stuecken, Robertson and Brody Kleffner each had a run batted in for Fatima against Mexico.

Fatima recognized Boeckmann and Stuckenschneider during senior-night activities last night in Westphalia when the Comets took on Columbia Rock Bridge’s Bruins.
