My Papa
With his old jeans, long beard, and hat
Papa always has an interest in me
Always up for a warm hug.
A man I know well,
A man taking care of the farm and cows
With strength and love
He enjoys every minute of his life.
I will never forget
That warm afternoon at BJ’s restaurant
My chicken and his burger
And the plate of fries we shared.
Riding in his lap on the John Deere tractor
Feeding the cows and riding the Gator
And carrying the groceries in the rain.
He knows right from wrong
And how to get to Illinois without getting lost.
He’s a handy man
Who loves taking me up the river in the boat
And staying hours ‘till we float back down again.
Papa, you are one of a kind
And have shared with me
The best moments of my life.
I love you.
