Jim Beers, age 78 of Linn, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at General Baptist Nursing Home in Linn.

Jim was born Dec. 8, 1941, in St. Louis, a son to the late Troy and Edna (Airsman) Beers.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Sullivan High School and several years later put himself through Linn Technical College and received a degree as an Electric Technician. He had several different jobs before working for the Department of Natural Resources in Jefferson City, retiring in 2000.

He liked to travel and go fishing with his brother. Jim also spent a lot of time with his three grandchildren; sometimes I thought maybe they moved in with him.

Jim was a proud and strong man that loved his family. He was always helping others that needed it. His corky sense of humor made everyone laugh and he liked to play jokes on people, even to the end.

Growing up with my dad we spent a lot of time together. During football season there was not anything else. I drove him crazy asking how the game worked. We learned to cook together but sometimes we couldn’t eat it, like the chili he made that was so hot even the wild animals would not touch it. The greatest thing was living right next to him. His grandchildren learned so much from their papa. My dad once told me his only regret was letting his girlfriend, Lillie, get away so, after almost 50 years he called her and after a short time they were married. They spent 13 ½ years together.

In addition to his spouse, Jim is survived by daughter, Jennifer Rackers and her husband Leroy of Linn; seven stepchildren, Cindy (James) Martin of Desoto, Sherry (Kervin) Hilpipre of Nebraska, Christine (Nick) Walker of Fenton, Benton Bell of Fenton, Jeremiah (Megan) Bell of Fenton, Matt (Kayla) Bell of Fenton, Tricia (Mike) Gunnett of Fenton; a sister, Lenora Scott of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Chuck (Leigh) Haslag of Taos, Amber (Jake) Miller of Linn, and Carmella Rackers of Linn; 17 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren,Kyleigh, Bentley,Nevaeh and Quinton; 18 step-great- grandchildren; sister in-law Judi Beers of Linn and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Troy G. Beers; a nephew Dwayne Beers and a great-nephew Ryan Beers.

Visitation was held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Morton Chapel followed by the Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. with Richard Sparks officiating.
