Melvin Theodore Lock, 70, Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, peacefully at his residence with his family.

He was born April 25, 1952, to Hugo and Mathilda (Meyer) Lock in Jefferson City.

He was a 1970 graduate of Fatima High School.

Melvin was united in marriage to Cecilia Evelyn Bisges Oct. 6, 1973, at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend.

He served his country in the Missouri National Guard for over 22 years.

Melvin was employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation with the Signing and Striping division.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos, a former member of the Argyle Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Wardsville Lions Club.

Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and mowing grass. He especially loved time with his granddaughters and attending their sporting events.

Melvin was preceded in death by parents, Hugo and Mathilda; son, Matthew Lock; in-laws, George and Cornelia Bisges; and brother-in-law, Don Bernskoetter.

He is survived by wife, Cecilia of Jefferson City; son, Aaron Lock and wife Libby of Jefferson City; granddaughters, Maggie and Morgan Lock; siblings, Urban Lock and wife Marilyn, Vic Lock and wife Helen, Ken Lock and wife Pat, Don Lock and wife Betty, all of Jefferson City, Larry Lock and wife Nancy of St. Joseph, Roger Lock and wife Susan of Conyers, Ga.; and sisters-in-law, Georgene Bernskoetter, Henrietta Fennewald and husband Gene and Patricia Luebbert and husband Charles.

Visitation will be held from 4:30-6 p.m., (today) Wednesday, June 8, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 9, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with the Rev. Michael Penn officiating.

Interment with military honors will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or to the Missouri Heart Institute.
