Sharon Kay Helming-Brown, 79, passed away Sunday, Feb.11, 2024.

She was born Nov. 30, 1944, to the late  Chesley Walter and Olive Mildred (Leimkiller) Nichols in Jefferson City.

She graduated from Osage County R-1 School in Chamois in 1962, and later took a winter course in computers at Linn State College along with numerous short-term seminars and training for her job.

Sharon accepted Christ as her Savior as a child and was baptized into the Mint Hill Baptist Church.  She was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Chamois in which she and her parents were charter members with Sharon becoming their first pianist at the age of 15.

Sharon was married to Raymond Helming June 15, 1963, at the First Baptist Church in Chamois. They were married for 42 years. He preceded her in death Nov. 22, 2005.  Three boys were born to this union. Shannon, Chad, Joshua.

She then married Michael Brown, a retired Staff Sergeant in the Army Jan. 4, 2009. They used to enjoy telling the story of how Michael was originally from St. Louis, traveled around the world twice, then ended up in Chamois where he met Sharon in her own back yard.

Sharon worked for various companies as secretary/bookkeeper or office manager, ending her working career with 25 years at Central Electric Cooperative.

She treasured the time she spent with family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren, playing, baking and playing cards with them.

She was a church pianist/organist for many years from 1959 to 2017. She enjoyed singing with the Community of Faith Choir in Chamois for several years.

Her favorite hobbies were reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and working in her flower gardens until her health prevented that.

Sharon was preceded in death by first husband, Raymond; parents, Chesley and Olive; son, Shannon Helming; nieces, Sheila Helming and Kristi Schwartz; nephew, Gregory Helming; brothers-in-law,   Homer Ferguson and Larry, Terry and Kenneth Helming; and sister-in-law, Karen Withhaus.

She is survived by sons, Chad Helming and wife Deeanna of Morrison and Joshua Helming and wife LaTisha of Jefferson City; step-daughter, Lisa Brown of Washington; grandchildren, Nicole, Megan, Cody, Chloe, Lexus and Dylan Helming and Chelsea Cobb and husband Sammy; great-grandchildren, Ethan Russell, Austin Deatch, Thierry, Jasper and Samson Helming, Mackenzie and Everleigh Cobb, Oliver Helming and Dakota Tellor with two more on the way, Alayna in May and Jameson in August; sisters, Shirley Ferguson and Edith Helming; and many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., (today) Wednesday, Feb.14, at Millard Family Chapels in Chamois. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Chamois with the Reverend Greg Koontz officiating. Interment will follow in the City of Chamois Cemetery.
