Urban Zimmer, 83, of Westphalia, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 at StoneBridge Senior Living–Westphalia surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 4, 1940, a son of the late William and Alvina (Schmitz) Zimmer in Vienna.

He was united in marriage to Betty Rothove, May 8, 1964.

Urban was a 1958 graduate of Vienna High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959–62. Urban was a steel fabricator and retired from Delong’s Inc. after 38 years of service. In his spare time, he did different fabricating jobs for friends and family. He enjoyed animals, having horses, pigs, cows and various other animals on their small acreage over the years.

He was preceded in death by parents, William and Alvina; brothers, Eddie Zimmer and Andrew Zimmer; sister, Millie Honse; brother-in-law, Joe Reichel; sister-in-law, Lavaughn Zimmer; grandson, David Collins; and two great-grandchildren.

Urban is survived by wife of 59 years, Betty; children, Michael Zimmer (Valerie Collins) of Linn, and Bethany Cross (John) of Westphalia; brother, Marvin Zimmer of Vienna; sisters, Mary Lou Reichel, Lorraine Stuecken (Roger) both of Freeburg and Susie Bassett (Ken) of St. Roberts; grandchildren, Bradley Cross, Cole Cross and Nathan Stone; and 11 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, Feb. 22, from 5–7:00 p.m. for visitation with prayer service starting at 4:15 p.m. at Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Westphalia.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, Feb. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, with Fr. Dylan. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
